| New Teaser of Graphics Overhaul |
Posted by William Ohmsford on Friday January 25, 2008 at 2:53 pm |
|
Funcom released a teaser video to the Long awaited overhaul to the Graphics engine to Anarchy Online. We have a copy of it in our Movie Gallery feel free to check it out The images are just amazing.
According to Silirrion on the Official Forums the new engine is coded to allow DirectX 9 to be used which means the GPU actually seeing some action.
Silirrion wrote:We arent developing specifically for DX10 no, it will be updated to DX9 with the options for later development down the line. The first priority is bringing it up to date in the first place. So the new engine will not require or utilise DX10 when released.
I will work on adding some captures from the video and if I find the time some captures from ingame now to show the changes between now and the new engine. |

Funcom Announced that the Free Play offer which started 3 years ago will continue through 2008. The program allows access to the base Anarchy Online game for free to anyone wishing to try the game. The Accounts are ad derived meaning players are subject to ingame advertisements which offset the costs of the game.
We're happy to announce that due to the steady growth and outstanding contribution of our free players to the community, we're extending the free play program for another year.
We'll also continue supporting the froob players with improved content and some nice treats throughout the year, and we'd like to thank you all for making this program a resounding success.

Funcom News Item
Durham, USA - June 27, 2007 - Funcom is proud to announce the introduction of a additional business model for Anarchy Online, exactly six years after the launch of the world's first sci-fi MMO. Set to launch this summer, Funcom now introduces a point-based system where players can purchase selected virtual items, as well as new content and services. The new approach comes as an addition to Anarchy Online's existing business models, and it is a current Funcom focus to only introduce items which do not affect gameplay balance. The first virtual items to kick off the program will be the introduction of jetbikes and hover boards, giving players the chance to cruise around Rubi-Ka in an all new fashion. In addition Funcom will offer previously released scout-mechs, luxury apartments, Leet pets and various sets of social clothing. By using points the players can also get access to previous and upcoming expansion and booster packs, as well as new services like changing in-game names or moving to another server. "Funcom has long been a pioneer on new MMO business models, and with the introduction of virtual item sales we are once again moving our game in an exciting new direction," said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. "Selling virtual items and smaller content upgrades is now a prevalent MMO business model in Asia. This has yet to be fully explored in the west, but we believe that the time is now right to test a limited version of such a model. At the same time we remain committed to the overall evolution of the game, making sure that Anarchy Online will be a success for many years to come." "Celebrating six years is a fantastic milestone for Anarchy Online, and we are genuinely honored to still entertain so many people," said Craig Morrison, Producer and Director on Anarchy Online. "As we now introduce a new addition to Anarchy Online we have ensured that our paying customers get certain privileges. At the same time we also want to show our commitment to taking the overall gameplay experience forward. I am therefore glad to announce that we are developing a new graphics engine for the game, replacing our entire server farm, as well as developing exciting booster packs which include new playfields and more." The Funcom points can at first be purchased in 10 and 20 USD / EUR packages. As an example of the price a new jetbike starts as low as 3 dollars, while a complete set of bikes can be bought for about 10 dollars. Players who are paying subscribers of Anarchy Online will get a set of monthly points included in the subscription price, and longer pricing plans like 6 and 12 months gives extra points. As an added incentive Funcom will send points to the player account upon receipt of subscription dues. For more information about the game please visit http://www.anarchy-online.com

| Server Change Over |
Posted by William Ohmsford on Friday August 10, 2007 at 10:02 pm |
|
The Server Change over occurred, the Servers came back up. They went back down for several hours due to some issues.
Players today reported more issues with lag and disconnects so I'm not sure its safe to play the game yet Historically FC takes about a week to iron out Hardware issues with their game so we'll have to see. On the brighter side there has never been a Rollback to the game in the 4+ years I've been in it so it isn't a OMG don't play we might see a rollback like it used to be in AC
Anyhow just an update |

| New Chat System |
Posted by William Ohmsford on Wednesday April 14, 2004 at 1:45 am |
|
The chat interface is receiving a major facelift in release 15.5.
Please note that once 15.5 is released only the new chat system will be available.
The New Chat System
In a nutshell, the new chat system will add support for multiple chat widows. Each window supports multiple tabs, and each tab can be configured to display one or more of the various chat channels available. It also provides for detailed logging of any chat window text and a log viewer.
At first glance you may not notice much of a difference between the old system and the new one. The new text has a smart black 'shadow' that makes it easier to read, and there is also an "i" button at the end of the chat input bar. The chat window is similar to the old, except for the aforementioned changes. In fact, the provided Default Chat Window configuration has been pre-configured to work in a similar manner to the one in use prior to release 15.5.
Important
If you need to return to the default standard settings then the following method should work for you:
- Exit Anarchy Online, if you are logged in
- Locate your Anarchy Online folder.
Usually it can be found here: "C:\Program Files\Funcom\Anarchy-Online" - Rename the Prefs folder to Prefs2
- Restart and login to the game. Your settings will have been reset to the default ones.
Major Changes
There are a few major changes you should be aware of before going any further.
First, you will notice that in the input bar it says Vicinity which means that the vicinity chat channel is your current chat destination for that particular chat window. In order to chat in a different channel, you can press the Enter key to initiate talking and then immediately hit the Tab key to display a drop down box with the list of channels you can switch to. This drop down box is navigable with the Shift + Up / Down Arrow keys, or you can simply Left Click on it with the mouse.
You can get more information on the Changes Here |
