History

The Haranir are an ancient, reclusive humanoid race who have remained hidden for tens of thousands of years. Biologically and culturally, they represent a fascinating evolutionary or magical missing link between ancient Dark Trolls and the earliest Night Elves—often described as "not quite trolls, not quite elves".

For millennia, their entire society has been bound by sacred oaths of absolute isolation to protect the convergent roots of the World Trees. They view themselves not as empire-builders, but as vigilant, primal wardens of Azeroth’s deep lifeblood. Guided by their faith in a long-absent nature goddess, they traditionally executed or exiled any outsiders who stumbled into their domain. However, when the Void harbinger Xal'atath began corrupting the roots from below, a young Haranir named Orweyna broke tradition to seek surface help, ultimately leading her people to offer their blades to the Alliance and the Horde.

Starting Zone: The Harandar Rootway
Deep beneath the canopy of the surface world lies Harandar, a primordial fungal jungle cradled where the ancient roots of the World Trees converge. It is a dangerous, untamed ecosystem illuminated entirely by the soft, eerie bioluminescence of its flora and fauna. Here, the Haranir do not build architecture; they grow it directly from stone, root, and massive moss bridges.
Home City: The Den

Surrounded by towering fungal monoliths and sweeping moss walkways, The Den is the pulsing heart at the center of the roots of the world. Once the sacred domain of a nascent nature goddess, it has cast its soothing, ambient light over generations of Haranir. It is a sanctuary of quiet vigilance where the Elder Council and the Rootwardens guide their people.

The Den acts as the central hub for the Haranir. It houses their racial leaders, class trainers, and the primary portal network tied to their Rootwalking racial ability, which allows them to instantly teleport back to this cradle from anywhere on Azeroth.

Leader: The Elder Council

The Haranir are primarily governed by the Elder Council, a governing body composed of the oldest and most revered members of the race.

  • The Philosophy: The Elders value tradition, absolute secrecy, and safety above all else.
  • The Conflict: For tens of thousands of years, the Council strictly forbade any contact with the surface world or the reveal of their true forms. When Xal'atath’s Void corruption threatened Harandar, the Elder Council initially resisted seeking outside help, fearing surface recklessness.
  • Key Figures: Notable figures like Elder Hagar manage the delicate transition as the Haranir open their borders and officially join the Alliance and Horde.
