It also notes though that the technical version was a rare commodity due to the rarity of the specialized knowledge held by their Technicians. Due to this the technical sample was only used to create true masterpieces of Xan technology.

There are several mentions of dangerous experiments into creating devices and creatures from the raw material of nightmares themselves.

It seems that the more tribal Yuttos warned the Xan about the dangers of the experiments carried out at the Albtraum Laboratory. The Yuttos agreed with, and possibly even aided in, the research into the subconscious and could see the benefit of storing souls and knowledge for future generations but they also saw the potential danger on trying to harness the darker sides of the mind. In fact it could be argued that what has now been found in the Shadowlands would suggest that the Yuttos might have been right to be concerned.
