Warblades evolved from ritual weapons used on Turtle, a moon orbiting the gas-planet LU-109-Borne in the Marker system. While squibbers evolved from daggers, and are used for protection purposes, the warblade was entirely designed for combat. As is the custom on Turtle, each caste has its own version, one each for the 'Feet', the 'Tools', the 'Riders' and the 'Protectors'.
