In 28744 the OmniTek corporation was doing research on developing perpetual factory asteroids. One of the asteroids used in the experiments was Gnamtulakh XXXI in the Tutti ring of Mortensen. A small plant was built in the center, drawing resources from the asteroid body surrounding it. Just a few months after the installation, a passing comet sent many of the asteroids in the ring out of orbit, among them Gnamtulakh XXXI. The project was abandoned and forgotten until recently, when it was rediscovered by an OmniSurveying ship. The asteroid had become only a thin hull, containing billions of the type of product the factory had produced until running out of resources. This product was the Gnamtulakh Bracer, a primitive ToilerBot technology - designed to keep you afloat in water.
